Sea Turtle Saved by Egyptian Diver - Egypt Today

Image
Sea turtle stuck in the plastic bag freed by Egyptian diver – Photo taken by a tourist  Sea turtle saved by Egyptian diver  By:  Noha El Tawil   Sat, Dec. 9, 2017     CAIRO – 9 December 2017: An Egyptian diver, Nadime Samir, rescued a sea turtle stuck in a plastic bag in the middle of the Red Sea this week after finding it floating on the surface while on a yacht with a group of tourists, according to El Masry El Youm.  Sea turtles often mistakenly eat plastic bags as they closely resemble them one of their favorite foods, jellyfish. Many people living around the Red Sea are making a concerted effort to reduce waste being dumped or blown into the sea as it damages the marine eco system and results in the death of animals like sea turtles.  Samir jumped in to find that the remnants of a plastic bag surrounded the turtle’s body and neck inhibiting it from swimming so he freed it while one of the tourists took photos. The turtle is a...

The Gouna Owners Club (GOC) is a grouping of homeowners intent on furthering social and operational cohesion between Club members and El Gouna Management to improve all aspects of life in El Gouna.  A management committee meets regularly with Gouna Management to resolve and/or identify issues affecting Gouna owners in general. The Gouna Owners Club has been very effective in getting answers and results from Gouna Management.  Obviously the more members of the Club, the stronger the position is for negotiation with Orascom. The Club has also secured additional discount for Gouna owners.  Various restaurants and outlets have agreed to provide an additional 10% to owners with the GOC club card.   Please find below links to an application form and rules and objectives of the Club, should you be interested in joining. Meteor Showers Expected Over El Gouna

Image
Each year from 6th to 14th December the "GEMINID" meteor shower appears in the sky. On the evening of Wednesday 13th December from around 20:00 hrs ( local time) to dawn Thursday 14th, you will have the opportunity to see between 30 - 90 meteors per hour in the sky.   We are blessed in this area with a largely unpolluted atmosphere so the chance of viewing such a show will be exceedingly good. Many thanks to Andrew and Bruna for highlighting this interesting fact to Gouna News! check out the link here

Golfers Protest New Fees

Image
Since the El Gouna Golf Club informed residents that the annual golf pass has been increased by 30% in Euro, many residents have been up in arms. Emails and social media posts on the subject have risen.  The newly announced Resident Annual pass prices including 30% increase are as follows: Individual  1 year : El Gouna Golf (18 holes)  € 1,450 Ancient Sands Golf (9 holes): € 950 Both € 2,200  Individual  6 months :  El Gouna Golf (18 holes)  € 800 Ancient Sands Golf (9 holes): € 550 Both € 1,200 The Gouna Golfing Community  thinks this increase is unjustified, given the large increase in the value of the Euro vs the Egyptian pound. In particular, it is hard to understand why not have an EGP price as in all commercial activities in El Gouna. They argue that the new rates are higher than golf clubs in Europe and much higher than Makadi and Soma Bay. Moreover some Golfers spend up to 6 months non  consecutive in El Gouna, whereas only a 6...
