As Covid-19 intensifies in Egypt and vaccination is underway , a recap of Covid-19 testing at El Gouna Hospital is timely and useful.  Here below, are the four types of tests administered at El Gouna Hospital. (These tests are provided to Residents, Visitors, or Tourists, Egyptian or Foreign. No prior appointment needed). El Gouna Hospital unfortunately does not wish a price list for these tests to be published due to the weekly fluctuation in prices of ingredients used in the tests and the different tiers in these prices. Readers  are invited  to phone ahead for the cost.   Rapid PCR : This test detects the Covid virus and is performed on-site in 15 minutes. A new Covid-19 test is being offered at El Gouna Hospital. It is the ID NOW by Abbott  COVID 19 test ; it works on the DNA & RNA of the virus.  It is a Nasopharyngeal swab,  that gives the same result as the PCR, but faster, because the test can be done individually and not in batches.  Less accurate than the gold standard PCR, this test is most  often used in confirmatory situations (e.g.  a negative test in persons with symptoms or a positive test in persons without symptoms).   It is suitable for travel when in a hurry, however it is best to check first with the destination country to be assured they accept this rapid test. Many El Gouna residents received appointment notifications by SMS to come down to Hurghada Al Ahyaa district to receive their first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.  Those who received the notification had previously registered on the Ministry of Health and Population website  that began accepting registrations February 28, 2021.  Priority had been given to workers in the health sector, the elderly and those with pre existing conditions. The web site allows candidates to specify the preferred location of their appointment  Many El Gouna residents were given appointments beginning the week of March 28. In a departure from trend, Gezira Sporting Club (GSC) from Cairo, won the 8th Annual Tennis Doubles Tournament. This tournament is held every year at the Gouna Tennis Club on Mohamed Kamel Street   Previously El Gouna had come out victorious in 6 of their 7 meets. The annual tournament pits El Gouna tennis players against GSC tennis players. The spirit of the tournament is friendly matches over three days, with finals on the fourth day.   The final tally showed Gezira winning 38 matches versus 28 matches won by El Gouna   Cups and Prizes sponsored by many benefactors (see below), are then distributed to winners, organizers and ball boys and girls from El Gouna International School, in a ceremony on the courts   In the evening a farewell dinner was held at Smokery Restaurant in the new Marina  Congratulations to Gezira Sporting Club for their deserved win, and everyone is looking forward to next year when there will be another repeat of this lovely event   P...
