It is my great pleasure to initiate El Gouna mangrove rehabilitation project, a joint effort by the local community, the El Gouna management and Orascom Development and under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and the Red Sea Protectorates and with lead mangrove expert Eng. Nagi Mostafa.

The project aims to rehabilitate the mangrove ecosystems in places which they were and still exist in El Gouna. After the completion of the planting, an in-house nursery will be established in agreement with the abovementioned entities for the development and long term sustainability of mangrove rehabilitation.

In line with the above mentioned entities, the El Gouna administration alongside Arch. Gabriel Mikhail, are moving to work on environmental sustainability, compensating nature as much as possible for the negative effects and reducing the damages caused by human activity.

The aforementioned are also currently establishing El Gouna Conservation Society with the benevolent assistance of the Ministry of Environment, steered by Arch. Gabriel Mikhail, to develop certain guidelines pertaining to the environment and raising environmental awareness, with the mangroves rehabilitation initiative being the start. In addition to that, the society will be involved in promoting awareness towards broad environmental issues, eco-tourism and bird watching with the help of famous birdwatcher/photographer Ms Georgina Cole.

The committee will also include the Head of Red Sea Protectorates, Mr. Tamer Kamel, El Gouna General Manager Mr. Oudad Kheir, Dr. Moustafa Fouda, Government Officials, Environmental Consultants and involved community members.
