**SMART GREEN MAINTENANCE  - INNOVATION OF THE CURRENT ERA**


Then and now, architecture represents the mediation of culture - a struggle between the past and the new to reach the norm of the era. 

Today, architects are beginning to look forward to using the developments of technology which seem to be intelligent as smart materials to bring solutions to longstanding problems. There is a wide variety with great potential for use in architecture and, moreover, dramatically reduce the energy and material cost of the buildings, enabling the human to design direct and discrete environments that provide better conditions. But to what extent could the intelligence support the heritage places specially while integrating the new with the old? 


Smart green maintenance is free from using what is harmful to the environment, a desirable method based on high technology to improve the preservation of existing heritage buildings and to preserve the environment as well as security and human safety.

Text and photography by Gabriel Mikhail     I n Egypt’s   Eastern Desert, where Gouna is located,   there is a great variety of indigenous trees and  shrubs which have adapted to this region ’s hot and arid conditions.    Desert gardens  have become fashionable in many hot and arid climates around the world. Native plants  use less water  and  insecticides, feed the local wildlife such as birds, are authentic in their setting, show  sensitivity to the environment  and some are used as medicinal plants.    From earliest times the Ancient Egyptians were renowned for their knowledge of medicinal plants. The Papyrus Ebers, an Egyptian medical papyrus of herbal knowledge (c. 1550 B.C.), compiled about  900  remedies, mostly plants, were being used by physicians.
