El Gouna Earth Week - Bird Watching Day - April 2nd

El GOUNA EARTH WEEK 2020 – BIRD WATCHING DAY

With the peace and quiet that has descended on El Gouna it is time to appreciate the sound of bird song that is filling the air. El Gouna resident and Rotary member Georgina Cole has prepared  El Gouna Bird ID cards to help get you started with identification. They can be downloaded online, or the file is available at Alam Writing Materials in Abu Tig Marina should you wish to print the cards in A4 colour.

No need to leave the house to see birds, just look to the skies, in the trees, and on the ground and you will be amazed at what you will find. Springtime sees the arrival of many species, and the thermals above have been full of the migration of storks, buzzards, kites, and cranes heading to Europe for the summer.

Check out the records of the sightings for the El Gouna Hotspot here with nearly 160 species: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L4302422

Download the Bird ID Cards here:
There are six pages: four pages specifically for the birds spotted at El Gouna Park, one page for the shore birds, and a page for the migration.

And the key to successful bird watching is stay as quiet as possible, no sudden movements, and to wear natural coloured clothing if possible.

You can also join in by preparing artwork of birds. There are many online tutorials to help whether sketching, or painting birds.

Check out all the activities on the El Gouna Earth Week Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/earthweekelgouna/
and please share your photos and artwork online with the hashtags #elgounaearthpeople #elgounaearthweek2020

Happy birding!
Georgina Cole
