Beach Cleanup in Al Ahyaa

Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna joined community members for a beach clean up in the Al Ahyaa District of Hurghada, just six minutes from the gates of El Gouna, on Monday 10th February 2020.

The event was organised by Al Ahyaa resident and friend of Rotary, Carol King, together with Waleed Ramadan of the Ministry of Environment's National Parks of Egypt and HEPCA.

The deserted coastline in this area is scattered with plastic waste washed up in the tides and strong winds, which can endanger the local marine life.

Rotarians and community members gathered at 10 am on a very blustery, and cold day. With temperatures of just 15 degrees, and a wind chill making it feel like 13 degrees, the volunteers soon warmed up as they began collecting rubbish along the stunning coastline. Staff from HEPCA arrived with a truck and the numerous bags full of plastic were loaded up ready to be taken to the nearby recycling plant.

Save the dates for the annual community event of El Gouna Earth Week 2020 which will be held this year 28th March to 4th April. More details will be posted on the Facebook page:

And don't forget, try to make the habit of collecting three pieces of rubbish every time you visit a beach.
