El Gouna to Cairo by Go Bus, a Positive Experience

For the first time, I took the Bus from El Gouna to Cairo. I rarely need to go to Cairo and for the few times I have, I have used Egyptair Express or accompanied friends who were going by car.

This time I went by Go Bus and I must say it met my expectations.

I had bought the ticket a few days earlier, at the Go Bus stop, downtown El Gouna, beside the Post Office. I chose the 10 am Elite Plus direct to Cairo. There are approximately 7 departures to Cairo. Each bus is a different class with different prices. The Elite Plus seemed to be the second best judging by the ticket price. I paid EGP 385 one way. Seat selection is done at reservation. Since I was traveling alone, I chose the single seat side of the bus. Refunds are allowed after purchasing the ticket. Tickets can be purchased online as well (see website below) or call 19567.

The GoBus was there, on time, at 10am and departed 10:05. Heading north from the El Gouna main gate.

I was pleasantly surprised by many things: Comfortable reclining seat, functioning seat belts, adequate leg room, toilet, box snack with coffee or tea included, screen at the back of every seat, showing English and Arabic films and other distractions (earphones supplied), fold up feet rests, fold up table and clean curtains to shield from the sun. One could also charge a phone from USB. I am told there was WiFi, but forgot to test it, since I was already on 4G 😏

Driver kept a reasonable speed throughout.

The only negative was the light in the toilet. It wasn’t working. Thankfully I had my smartphone on me. Second negative was no scheduled stops for leg stretching.

Once we reached Cairo, there were two stops. The Sixth District stop south east of Cairo arriving five hours from departure time, then Tahrir square terminus in the Center of Cairo 30 minutes later.

Considering flying costs are over 2,000 EGP. If one is not in a hurry, this option is ideal.
