Tennis Club El Gouna Aims Higher

With the advent of new management in November 2018, Tennis Club El Gouna wishes to shed its rudimentary beginnings and aims to move up a notch or two. Under the management of Mr. Yasser Abu Seada (pictured below), the club is currently upgrading four of its seven clay tennis courts, with the remaining three slated for 2020.

The club has already hosted two tournaments for the Egyptian Tennis Federation. One on the 26th of July and one the 6th of August. These tournaments are part of a circuit allowing Egyptian players to gain ranking within Egypt. Umpires from the federation travel to the tournaments to officiate and keep scores.

More of these tournaments are planned at the club, with the next Egyptian Tennis Federation tournament scheduled in El Gouna on October 17th, and the following one November 21st. The club expects monthly tournaments after that, in 2020.

But the ambition of Mr. Abu Seada doesn’t stop there. He is interested in hosting the ITF Juniors and Future Champions tournaments in 2020. These tournaments are played in many cities around the world to establish rankings, and are used as a springboard for talented players into the Association of Tennis Professionals (the famous ATP).

Mr. Abu Seada noted that the condition of the courts did not permit these international tournaments to be held in the El Gouna club, and that this necessitated a serious upgrade to the court infrastructure. Subsequently, four courts are being torn up to have a new foundation laid down. It will consist of 15 cm of crushed limestone rock, topped by a 3 cm layer amalgam of sand, clay and crushed red brick.

The restoration project will be stopped during the Gouna Film Festival and résumé immediately afterwards. To be ready in time for the October tournament.
