Gouna Owners Club Extends Executive Committee

The Gouna Owners Club (GOC) is pleased to report the extension of our Committee to include all recently nominated members, bringing the total to 11 full members, plus 4 support members.

Support members, whilst not available to attend meetings, have offered to help the Committee in their work.

The Committee meets with El Gouna management to resolve general concerns raised by owners in El Gouna. All are volunteers.

At a meeting on 14 January 2019, the Committee agreed the following priorities, with further discussion on 5 February 2019:

  • Safety of low-level street lighting
  • Advance notice and quotations for exterior repainting of buildings
  • Customer Services
  • Maintenance Department quotations
  • Development of the infrastructure of El Gouna (road design, driving standards, parking, beach
  • use, etc) as the town grows
  • Land registration
  • Sales Transfer Fees

Text and photography by Gabriel Mikhail     I n Egypt’s   Eastern Desert, where Gouna is located,   there is a great variety of indigenous trees and  shrubs which have adapted to this region ’s hot and arid conditions.    Desert gardens  have become fashionable in many hot and arid climates around the world. Native plants  use less water  and  insecticides, feed the local wildlife such as birds, are authentic in their setting, show  sensitivity to the environment  and some are used as medicinal plants.    From earliest times the Ancient Egyptians were renowned for their knowledge of medicinal plants. The Papyrus Ebers, an Egyptian medical papyrus of herbal knowledge (c. 1550 B.C.), compiled about  900  remedies, mostly plants, were being used by physicians.
