Scene from the film Photocopy

Cairo - August 27 2017: The cinema critic Intishal Al Tamimi, director of El Gouna Film Festival, said that choosing the movie Photocopy to compete in the official competition of the features movie came as a confirmation that the festival pays great attention to promising young Egyptian filmmakers.

El Gouna, according to Al Tamimi, will serve as a real and significant outlet for these youths to move towards Arab and international horizons. Photocopy is the first directing experience for its director Tamer Ashry.

Photocopy is a cinematic experience characterized by its non-traditional theme and its deep thought. It is full of human attitudes and the outstanding performance of its stars Mahmoud Hemida, Shireen Reda and the rest of the actors greatly enhanced its value, Al Tamimi said.

Photocopy will compete to win the Golden Star award for Best Feature Movie. Photocopy is the second feature movie to be chosen to participate in the festival. It was chosen along with the Egyptian film Sheikh Jackson. Sheikh Jackson was chosen to be the opening film of the festival.

Photocopy stars Mahmoud Hemeida, Shereen Reda, Farah Youssef, Aly Tayeb and Ahmed Dash. The movie was written by Haitham Dabour and directed by Tamer Ashry.

The film festival will take place from September 22 through 29. Sheikh Jackson is a controversial movie for Ahmed al-Fishawy, and it goes back to the day pop star Michael Jackson died. The film is about a religious young man who is in a struggle against himself for being a fan of Michael Jackson, and at the same time wanting to be devoted to his religious beliefs as he grows older.

The film’s production company poster shows the protagonist, played by Egyptian star Ahmed el-Fishawy, dressed as a Salafist sheikh, posed in a Jackson dance move, and wearing Jackson’s signature hat.

The film also features Majid Al-Kadwani, Dorra, Ahmed Malik, Amina Khalil and Hazem Sharif. The film was produced by Hisham Abdel-Khaliq and Mohamed Hafezy and was written and directed by Amr Salama.
