Looking for Pottery?

By Valentina C. (Contributor)

Decorating a garden can be a tricky job, as much as it can be a very enjoyable creative endeavor. And when your backyard or front yard accompany a villa in El Gouna, then you are probably looking for some beautiful accessories somewhere not far from home.

So, what about some traditional pottery for instance? El Gouna doesn't have a Pottery outlet per se. The nursery, owned by Mamdouh, previously behind the Marina, has relocated beside Dubieland. They have a small limited selection of pots for plants.

However, we know a great place in Hurghada, where you can choose your own favourite types of pots, out of a variety of shapes, colours, sizes and finishings. We've decided to share our experience with you.

Egyptians have made pottery For millennia. Ancient Egyptian pottery was originally made for functional reasons, rather than for decorative purposes. But nowadays the situation is mainly the other way around. Although making pottery is still the occupation of many in rural areas, it is increasingly in trouble. The reason for that, is the invasion of cheaper mass produced products, made of other less wholesome materials. By using "fukhar" (pottery in Arabic) in our gardens, we are supporting and promoting a beautiful craft, protecting it from extinction.

Coming back to our shop, it's name is El Wakeel Bazar and it is an oasis of well done objects. Inside the shop you can find a lot of things that can be used to decorate the interior of your home, or that have a practical use: plates, traditional cooking pots, ashtrays, vases, candle holders. Outside, you can find bigger pots, some suitable for seeding plants others suitable for just embellishing the entrance of your villa. The owner, Saeed, is helpful and can guide you through making the right purchase. He can also arrange for the delivery of the products to your door step.

The address of El Wakeel Bazar is Nasr Street, Hurghada on the other side of a Nissan car shop, and you can reach the owner at the following number: 0112 5047440

Hoping that this article comes in useful to those of you who have not decided yet on how to enhance the beauty of their gardens. We will be waiting for some inspirational pictures.
