Certified Organic Produce Now Sold in Gouna

El Gouna being the place for a healthy lifestyle, all that is missing is produce grown in a sustainable, environmentally conscious way, and free of pesticides.

But now, and for the first time ever, certified organic, vegetables and fruit, are available in El Gouna with Sara's Organic Food.

Sara's Organic Food can be found on Bestway shelves, Marina and Downtown branches.

Sara and her team started growing clean food 5 years ago; wanting to make safe, nutritious food available in Egypt, after observing that water and soil are often polluted and that no effective regulations existed on pesticide and chemical usage in farming.

Organic food is beneficial to our health, as well as to the environment and the community. Pesticides and chemicals in our food are harmful. Seasonal organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and eggs from organically fed chickens are proven to have higher nutritional contents, taste better and are the safe option for the whole family.

Grown with love, in Egypt, Sara’s Organic Food and Lara’s Premium Produce have become household names in Cairo, and are now available in Gouna.

Sara's Organic Food is grown on Sara's organic farm, north west of Cairo.

Lara’s Premium Produce is sourced from neighboring trusted growers and farms, with tight quality control measures, and is pesticide free.

Sara's organic farm (aka Desert Lake Farms) is certified by the ECOA (Egyptian Center of Organic Agriculture) which is credited with Dakks (Deutsche Akkreditierungstelle), equivalent with EU organic certification. The farm is also Global Gap certified. Certificates are renewed each year, after a check of soil and crop analysis.

A short primer on organic farming:
Organic and biodynamic farming means keeping a natural balance between all beings in the ecosystem. The word "organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products. Organic farming practices are designed to encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution. Farmers who grow organic produce don't use conventional methods to fertilize, control weeds or prevent livestock disease. For example, rather than using chemical weed killers, organic farmers may conduct more sophisticated crop rotations and spread mulch or manure to keep weeds at bay and use natural ways of pest control such as control and management of natural predators and parasites. Integrated Pest Management methods like intercropping (growing crops that complement each other and or repel certain insects together) and polyculture (growing various varieties instead of just one, as in mono crop cultivation of conventional farms, depleting soil and creating a suitable environment for an overpopulation of an insect, i.e. a pest). Growing organic is labour intense, sometimes has lower yields and is grown according to seasonality; it reflects the real cost of food production. By buying organic, you’re supporting a more sustainable, environmentaland ethical way of producing food.
