Rotary Club Participates in Earth Week

The Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna joined in the Earth Week celebrations commencing Friday 15th April 2016 by attending the opening event at Technology University of Berlin, Campus El Gouna. TUB Lecturer Christoph Banhardt welcomed everyone with a presentation about  Green Earth and Healthy Planet giving valuable advice on how to reduce carbon emissions.

This was followed by Biologist Islam El Sadek's interesting presentation about the Red Sea National Parks which cover an area of 48,000 sq. km. There are four types of protected areas in Egypt: coastal, wetlands, desert, and geological which are located in the Northern Red Sea, Wade El Gemal Hamata, and Elba. The Red Sea Rangers goal is to protect these areas for future generations, raise environmental awareness, and promote ecotourism.

On Saturday 16th April, an Earth Week Flea Market was held in Kafr El Gouna. Rotary Members raised awareness about the work of Rotary in District 2451 Egypt, and organised their 11th blood donation event with the help of Dr Rasha Adel from the Red Sea Blood Bank. The blood donation vehicle was parked at the entrance to the Flea Market. Rotary Members encouraged visitors to donate urgently needed blood, and contacted nearby hotels. Only eight bags of blood were collected so we really need the community help to encourage more donors. Check the Facebook page for Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna for future blood donation events, or contact us if you can organise a large group of donors.
